INDUSTRIAL DECAY – IDN 01

A few years ago I worked in a visual effects studio in Toronto and my first day there I met another artist whose name was very familiar to me. Chris Smart aka Sigma 7 had been one of the founders of Syrous, a Toronto based company that was one of the largest drum and bass promoters in North America circa 1993 – 2000.

To my surprise, he was now an award winning digital artist whose specialty is to apply real world texture to digital environments and assets for TV, Film and most recently Video Games. His infatuation with textures and surfaces fueled his desire to capture imagery of the deteriorating world around us.

In 2007, he decided to seek out photographers with a similar interest and created a medium for sharing and exposing their visual ideals.

Let me introduce you to In Decay, the first book from a photography collective The Industrial Decay Network.

IDN 01

IDN 01 presents a study of urban exploration and imagery of what our past has left behind us. The book features the work of 25 photographers from 11 countries documenting the industrial ghosts of our past.
