Having already heard and played a few tunes off the upcoming Project 51 Void LP, I knew that our previous post containing Gridlok’s mix was just a teaser for what was to come last night at Respect. We walked into a packed venue where Michiganite Sinistarr was providing the smoother, deeper side of Drum & Bass mixed with some more aggressive and classic material. Gridlok later took over to close out the night, proving why he is one of the state’s most prolific producers. I hate to sound cliché, but, you can usually tell when the DJ gets lost in his own world of music, and that’s where he seemed to be. So far gone, in fact, his set felt to be more contagious group therapy than a performance.

Feeling inspired by what was going on around me, I decided to challenge myself a bit and shoot with the 50mm f/1.4D lens without a flash. Yes, even us event photographers need to throw our safeguards out the window and see what we can make of it once in a while. I’ll be honest, most of what came out was a blurry, uber-grainy mess.
