It’s hard to believe that it’s been 4 years since SMOG started to make a name for itself as a trend-setting and taste-making brand bringing Dubstep to the city of Los Angeles. From it’s humble beginnings as a side room event, or being hosted in a cozy pub in downtown LA, to catering to thousands of party goers at events in world class venues all over the US, the SMOG name is one of the most recognizable in the genre.

Smog founder Drew Best, alongside partner 12th Planet, have expanded the brand outside of Los Angeles to include events at SXSW in Austin TX, a showcase at WMC in Miami, one-off events in San Francisco and Las Vegas, and most recently a Lollapalooza after party in Drew’s home town of Chicago. They have also positioned SMOG as THE collaborative company in US Dubstep, having partnered up with Scion for a series of events in LA this past year, a mix CD from Scion’s A/V subsidiary, as well as teaming up with the likes of heavyweight promoters Embrace and others on events around the country.
This event is more than just a party. It’s a benchmark of how far we have come, and a testament to how much further we can go. This event is for all of you who have helped and supported along the way. – Drew Best
On Saturday, over 20 performers gather at Lot 613 in DTLA for probably the biggest Dubstep-centric event in Los Angeles history. In proper anniversary style, the lineup is stacked with all of SMOG’s residents, as well as artists that fall into the extended family. As a special treat, Smog resident DLX is debuting his live band project on the night. And, we can’t forget about the special guest performance by an LA international favorite.
Aside from our usual involvement with Smog, we are proud to be hosting the second stage at this event. Featuring tastemakers representing a wide variety of EDM, there is going to be some seriously sick music at this event with a little something for everyone.

best memory? tough to pick just one because i love SMOG! first show was Chef, and then Dubtroit being in the OC was just awesome (even though detroit bar needs a better system) and seeing Truth in the U.S. was sick!

My first smog party was in a warehouse somewhere around downtown LA. I went alone, as was typical for my dnb events. i was just getting into the dubstep sound, and I was fully converted after a friend sent me a mix by Pawn. I knew Pawn would be there, so i wanted to see him live in action. That night was when i first met Pawn & Blaze whom are my favorite friends in the world. It’s very nostalgic to remember the night that led me to so many good friends that I still kick it with day.

best memory had to be the other week at Control: The 12th planet version. If I had known i would have to wear a neck brace for the next week from how HARD his set was i might have had second thoughts about going :) The vibes at the show were amazing, as usual for a control show we made friends with about half the crowd. From the rafters to the couches to the smokers pit everyone was stoked for the set. Drove all the way back to San diego at 5am with a smile on my face and blood coming out of my ears the entire way home….

Best SMOG memory is when I ditched my boyfriend on his birthday to go see Caspa at the House on Blues! I know, I know, what a shitty thing to do, but I had too!! I didn’t even drink a lick of alcohol and didn’t need to because the vibes inside that place were thick! LA dubstep skankers and even a mosh pit, WHAT!?! Caspa killed it and I was bobbing my head so hard that night in the front row that I couldn’t move my neck for about 3 days afterwards. Best part is the video of my sis giving Rod Azlan a fist pound as he passed by us onstage…so hilarious!
Congrats to SMOG and their fine four years!

Ok. My best memory was Ras Kass and I believe it was Plastician coming out to perform @ last year’s show. But then this was quickly replaced by the getting kicked out for burnin’ @ a dubstep show and gettin’ the piece I bought @ the THC expo taken away by security taken away. Good times though. Def looking forward to this year’s show.
