Media Contender Podcast 10 – Flinch

Media Contender Podcast SeriesThere is a lot of talk on the internet lately about Dubstep and its appropriately named subgenre, Brostep—a term made to identify the harder, more metallic style being produced that attracts college kids by the herd. As Dubstep’s popularity continues to rise, there seems to be a common misconception forming amongst the younger generation who are also largely responsible for the massive spike in attendance at shows. Many are under the impression that if it doesn’t have a screaming midrange bassline or distorted wobble, it’s not Dubstep. This music which spawned from UK Grime and Drum & Bass is still fairly young, but at its birth was much different than the most popular riddims you hear today. Its elements were minimal with it’s bass kicks and snares placed with precision. A warm rolling or dubbed-out bassline resonated a vibe so deep that its coined term “space, pace & bass” made this 140bpm music feel fresh and special to those few people hearing it for the first time.

FlinchMedia Contender only champions artists that display diversity and who aren’t just following trends, but creating them. Influenced by the originators of the sound our next featured guest in the Media Contender Podcast Series is a serious heavyweight contender who most notably has been making a name for himself as super producer—Flinch. He is no stranger to dance music, this 10 year veteran has been making bass music consistently under various alias’. His unique style has been carved out as an artist who is able to deliver a happy medium between the super hype jump-up and the deeper, more melodic synth-based Dubstep, he has a unique ability that can marry a massive tear-out bassline with a melody that could serenade your grandma. And it doesn’t stop there. A true tastemaker, Flinch delivers a selection of future cuts riding between the UK Funky, Club, Moombahton, Techno, Garage, and Dubstep genre lines. Regardless of the label you put on it, it’s simply good bass music.
