There are certain artists in this world that have always had their own take on the genre they are participating in… or should I say, those genres that have influenced them most. Skyler Mic hails from San Diego and is one of those guys, always has been since our early days of D&B. With his involvement in Club Muse, Is Recordings and Deep‘s legendary Thursdays, we’ve all been listening keenly in one way or another.

Since Muse’s hiatus and most recent revamp in early 2010, we’ve seen a change in direction and a new focus. This also meant we lost track of a few regulars and residents. But as time and place would have it, I saw Skyler at a gig in SD where handed me a CD of new originals and remixes. Remember how I said some guys just have that innate ability to throw multiple genres into a blender and serve us the frothy goodness that comes out? That’s exactly what I was listening to. Our next AIM conversation had me asking him if he’d like to be part of the This is IT series because I knew he had the ability to put together one of the most endearing versions of our Podcast yet. Little did I know he’d be dedicating this Love Poem to his fiancé and really step up the sentimentality. Congratulations, carnale, you’ve come a long way.

These days Skyler has his hands in Ghettron, continues to cultivate his sincere indie EDM sound and visually gift us with artwork. That night in SD he also sent me home with this piece that looks great on my wall. He’s also working with the Hyena guys and helped Natalie Rae with some production. From that fruitful endeavor came the remix, Toxic Love (one of my favorite tracks in the mix) — a harmonious blend of mainstream vocal Electro, Dubstep and Progressive chords — and we’ve got it as an exclusive download for our talent-hungry Media Contender readers.
