Celebrating the creation of something and its efforts and accomplishments is one of the great things about being human. There are amazing things and amazing people in the world that deserve a celebration and with that in mind, this weekend is something we at Media Contender are more than excited to be a part of. SMOG, the dubstep record label that changed the American dubstep game (you could say even helped CREATE it), is celebrating its fifth year of existence, and it will be the birthday celebration to end all. Only five years ago, SMOG cheifs John Dadzie, Danny Johnson, and Drew Best ganged together in an effort to bring a new genre of music they felt so passionately about to the states. I think that I can speak for each of them when I say NOBODY knew that dubstep, the music few people knew about and even fewer were creating, would become what it is today. It’s been an incredibly exciting ride for everybody involved, and all along SMOG has been there shining the best light on one of the biggest rising genres in the music world today.

“We started SMOG in LA, but we feel our company goes beyond the limitations of Los Angeles. We have done SMOG events in several cities across the USA and our music appeals to people throughout the world so we view SMOG as an international brand. The Galaxy Theatre is a central location to all dubstep fans throughout Southern California, allowing a short drive from San Diego, the Inland Empire, and Los Angeles. We also believe in Jon Reiser’s vision for the transformation of the new Galaxy Theatre and expect to produce more events there in the years to come.” – Drew Best, SMOG

SMOG has always been ahead of the game, from the artists under the label and the sounds they produce to the well-planned and legendary parties they’ve held over the past few years. SMOG’s dubstep massive at Miami Music Week this past March was one of the greatest gatherings of dubstep and bass talent I’ve ever seen, and the packing out five rooms of bass is evidence enough of their success. And it only gets better. The lineup, topped by Croyden’s own dubstep don Skream, is massive, filled with all of SMOG’s artists as well as surprise guests and talent representing the bass-game in fresh and exciting ways. Along with two stages full of music, as well as a massive BBQ from none other than the king of the grill, Daniel Riddim. If you want, they’ve just added VIP areas to the event, details of which are all on the ticket link. So if you want to party like P.Diddy at Southern California’s biggest night of bass, click here. The party is 18+ and starts at 7PM, the documentary starts at 8PM, and the music goes all night long.

Also on the night will be the debut screening of a 12th Planet documentary. Directed by Mollie Tarlow, the film takes you through the current life of one of America’s top bass music performers. Arrive early for a chance to check this out. The Screening starts at 8pm.
