One of the many reasons why Check Yo Ponytail 2 remains such an exciting event for us as well as anyone who’s attended a CYP2 show, is that the lineups are always amongst the most refreshing and forward-thinking in the game. I don’t know of many other parties that can combine genres from witch-haus to indie-rock to booty-bounce and every sub/flex genre in the game under one party. It’s no easy task being the first to grab hold of artists and bring them together for an event, yet somehow CYP2 is has a whole year+ under its belt of doing exactly that. Next up, in equally as new and exciting means as past CYP2 events, Club Cheval is making their way over to the Echoplex for their first ever Los Angeles appearance.

Club Cheval, consisting of four young producers (Canblaster, Panteros666, Myd, and Sam Tiba) from France, is a unique identity, so to speak, an anti-groove to the who’s who and what’s what of music today. They’ve combined both everything and nothing at the same time, venturing into every microcosm of music to develop something that seems familiar but has still never been done before. Melodies, basslines, synths, and samples from hip hop to uk funky to techno are cleverly developed with new insight. Canblaster’s various originals and remixes are a testament to that: using samples from unexpected places like a horse or phone feedback along with plenty of eccentric flips, noises, and synths to create a sound all his own. The rest of his crew have all created tunes backed by producers and DJs in every zone. By not succumbing to the trends and pretentiousness of any musical scene, they’ve actually gained more downright respect from their peers than most.
