Ghostface In Store at Not For Sale Gallery

Legendary Wu Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah has been on our radar for quite some time now. Ever since the release of their debut Enter the 36 Chambers, Ghostface has proven to be the most consistent of the Clan’s MC’s when it comes to forging a solid solo career and catalog. With the current release of the “Wu Massacre” album with fellow clan MC’s Raekwon and Method Man, and a solo album in the works for this Summer, there seems to be no stopping Ghostface Killah aka Iron Man.

Our friends over at 4CAST and the Not For Sale Gallery, in conjunction with Media Contender, proudly present a meet and greet with the legend himself on Tuesday April 20th in downtown Los Angeles. This event is to promote the highly anticipated release of the “Purple Tape” version of the Ghostface Doll, which will be available for sale at the day of the signing. We will have (thee) Mike B on the turntables plus a special guest and some cold brews for you to sip on.

Free Scion Radio App ft Roach Coach Radio

After the success of the Scion Radio 17 Beats Per Minute (BPM) Meter app for the iPhone and iPod touch, Scion releases its second mobile application in the Apple App Store- the Scion AV Radio app. With the Scion AV Radio application, users can listen to the automaker’s online radio station “Scion Radio 17” directly from their device. Among the featured radio stations in the app are “Roach Coach Radio”, “Vice Radio,” “The Rub Radio,” “Wax Poetics,” “Turntable Lab” and “IHEARTCOMIX.” Found on the brand’s lifestyle website ScionAV.com, the “Scion Radio 17” content is refreshed the first Thursday of every month.

The Scion AV Radio app also allows users to listen to the latest remix projects and CD Sampler releases from Scion’s in-house record label “Scion Audio Visual,” as well as watch interviews with music artists with whom Scion has partnered. A multi-media platform capability also allows users to send links with content from the Scion AV Radio app to themselves and friends to play from either a computer or iPhone.

“Scion is always looking for ways to tailor its products to fit the lifestyle and tastes of its consumers,” said Jeri Yoshizu, Scion sales promotions manager. “With the success of the BPM Meter app and the popularity of the ‘Scion Radio 17’ broadband channel, we thought it was natural to combine those two elements for the AV Radio app.”

Dublab 10 Year at Downtown Artwalk

Celebrating 10 years of future roots music, Dublab presented 10 straight days of events in the Los Angeles area. Last night’s festivities took place in the Continental Gallery, a Downtown spot perfect for taking advantage of Artwalk’s eleventy billion adherents who swarm the ‘hood every second Thursday. The exhibition caught my eye late last month when I encountered the Labrats laying out what looked to be a floor full of slipmats accompanied by 12″ record sleeves for the Up Our Sleeve Project going on the walls. Some of these works were absolutely ingenious, proving that maybe a perfect circle or square isn’t a bad starting point after all. The night also showcased show posters and donated art being auctioned off with 100% of those proceeds going back into the future of the radio collective. And no night could be complete without a souvenir, right? Hit+Run set up their screens and flash dryer, giving people the opportunity to create a unique pattern of designs on a take-home shirt. (As if the cool fold-out flyer wasn’t enough)

Worlds On Fire Exhibit by Will.i.am Photos

It’s Grammy Week! Downtown’s Pacific Electric Lofts was the scene for Will.i.am’s pop music and pop art collaboration last night. Benefiting the Black Eyed Peas Peapod Foundation, there were pieces going from anywhere between $5k-100k, which was well-worth the price considering the quality of work. On the decks were both the man whose name was behind the event and the mighty Adam Freeland. And no gallery experience would be complete without a video crew roaming around, which is where Dip Dive stepped in.

BLOC28: Disney Art Show

Bloc28 started as an idea 3 years ago. This art program is taking contemporary artists who’s experience stems from non traditional media such as murals, graffiti, and street art and giving them a very rare opportunity to reinterpret one of the most iconic and influential cartoon characters of all time, Mickey Mouse. Series one featured some of my favorite artists such as Slick, Mear One, Craola, and Steven Daly. All of the artists have their own unique style and each have carved a niche for themselves within the art world, each capable of telling a story in a non-traditional way. What makes this so special is that the collaboration between Disney and the artists has been done in a way that protects the integrity of all the brands, we all know how hard it is to touch Disney, and I think Disney respects the artists in which they have chosen to work with, the final product is something that will resonate within the art community and beyond for many years.
Media Contender was in the house for the private opening night party packed to the gills with art enthusiasts from across the country. Our very own Sucio was asked to dj alongside veteran underground dj, APX-1.

Fashion Week Friday in Chinatown

Los Angeles is known for a lot of things, Chinatown being one of them. This area of town has just about as many key galleries and clothing stores per square inch as the rest of the city, they’re just a lot more condensed and hidden beneath the historical façades. This Friday, October 17th, 2008, four businesses will come together and host an event in conjunction with Fashion Week. If you’ve never been, now’s your chance to roam the decorated walkways and check out the scene that Flock Shop, Welcome Hunters, Ooga Booga and Lions Den have helped cultivate.

Afterparty at Hop Louie? Oh man, they couldn’t have picked a better dive bar! Right smack-dab in the middle of it all, many a hipster has spilled a drink trying to find room to see and be seen. Join the crowd!

Gina Turner and the GFK on Fairfax

This is said to be the most publicized action figure of all time. Press on the infamous Ghostface Killah Doll has been circulating the web for a couple of years now. It just saw official release early this year. Amish from 4Cast Ltd. is a friend of mine, I met him through Hochi when we were doing the TEKDBZ shows a few years ago. We have been talking about doing a GFK Doll/Art Show for quite some time. I wont give it away but I hope that still happens.

When we did Bass Sessions in LA in February I was down on Fairfax @ Turntable Lab with Klever and Tittsworth doing an interview with Gina Turner, we ran into the GFK, Amish and Clyde Singleton (professional skateboarder).

RETAIL MAFIA X BOOST MOBILE

This is not quite hot off the press but I am quite proud of this piece of work. It was when I first started working on my own as a music supervisor. I was working on episodes of 10 Count, and Project Detention for Fuel TV and one of the editors I worked with asked me to get down. I was very happy to work on this. It’s about a group of streetwear pioneers from NYC who networked themselves as a collective and therefore a serious force in the market place. Collaborating with Boost was a testament to the idea behind Retail Mafia. A huge corporate brand gaining street cred and the independent “authentic” brands tap into a bigger demographic while maintaining that credibility.

You can see my name in the credits, yayyerr. I still have not received a copy, though.
